Duties
Overview:
The Assistant Superintendent of Business & Operations is a member of the Superintendent’s cabinet and leadership team and is responsible for providing leadership in the development, operation and coordination of the District’s Business Services, Child Nutrition Services, Facilities, Maintenance and Operations, Transportation Services, District Capital Programs, Before/After School Child Care Program, and Human Resource functions for all assigned non-teaching classified and non-licensed exempt employees. The Assistant Superintendent of Business & Operations is also responsible for the vision, planning, implementation, operation and reliability of core District support programs necessary to create a culture of accountability that achieves the best academic and developmental outcomes for each student.

Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Superintendent, in cooperation with other executive level administrators, in effectively coordinating and continuously improving district operations and programs.
Plan, assign, review, evaluate, manage and direct the District’s Business Services, Child Nutrition Services, Facilities, Maintenance and Operations, Transportation Services, Capital Programs, Before/After School Childcare Program, and Human Resource functions for all assigned non-teaching classified and non-licensed exempt personnel.
Prepare agenda items for the Board of Education meetings and complete the follow-up process for such items after Board action.
Attend Board meetings and prepare presentations and reports for the Board as requested by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
Provide support to the Superintendent with one-time, long-term, or ongoing special projects as needed.
Supervise assigned personnel, conduct annual performance appraisals, and make recommendations for appropriate employment action.
Serve as District lead in cooperation with the Superintendent, Treasurer/CFO, other administrators and the Board of Education on all school construction, modernization projects and maintaining or repairing facilities.
Review legislation and legal interpretations affecting school business operations including facilities construction and modernization.
Serve as district-level contact for parent concerns related to business operations, school safety, child nutrition, transportation or environmental conditions throughout school facilities and operations.
Oversee the use of district facilities and applicable software systems.
Provide leadership in the monitoring, implementation and administration of campus-wide safety and security plans and programs, including annual review, revision, and/or submission as required by state officials.
Collaborate with staff to ensure a consistent safe and secure learning environment.
Oversee campus safety and security and serve as the primary liaison with campus security personnel, the New Albany Police Department, School Resource Officers, K9 Unit, the Plain Township Fire Department and other local enforcement agencies assigned to the school district.
Coordinate and report any/all school safety drills as required by state officials.
Actively participate in fire safety inspections and, when required, creates, facilitates and supervises the implementation of any corrective action plans as required.
Coordinate and provide oversight of all emergency operations plans, campus-wide safety drills, reporting requirements and applicable software system, Navigate360.
Provide leadership for the assessment of campus-wide safety and security protocols and measures as well as the expertise to make recommendations for improvement.
Facilitate a campus-wide safety committee.
Coordinate threat assessment training and reports in accordance with state requirements.
Oversee development of student and parent communications related to school safety and review annually to ensure compliance to Board Policies, and Ohio/Federal law.
Facilitate the implementation and understanding of the Safe Schools Helpline and Gaggle.
Serve as compliance officer for reports of bullying and complete bullying reports as required by state officials.
Maintain positive communication with all site and department administrators; serve as a resource to District and building administrators regarding the evaluation and efficiency of operational systems and services.
Conduct school site visitations to determine quality of services provided and operations efficacy.
Develop, coordinate, and supervise new programs and projects as authorized by the Superintendent, the Treasurer/CFO or the Board of Education.
Assist in the coordination of and evaluation of professional development experiences for non-teaching/exempt staff and identifies and provides professional development and support for supervisors within the Business Operations Department
Develop student demographic and enrollment projections to ensure schools and departments are adequately staffed in cooperation with other administrators.
Supervise the coordination and maintenance of the District’s insurance program including fire, casualty, liability and student accident plans.
Assist in developing the annual budget and long-range financial planning.
Administer contracts with outside agencies.
Secure related approvals for school improvements or construction in the City of New Albany, Plain Township, City of Columbus of state of Ohio in accordance with applicable laws, zoning regulations, or residential school district requirements.
Serve as the Superintendent’s designee with citizen groups and political subdivisions of city, county and state government; work with governmental and corporate agencies.
Work with Association representatives in maintaining proactive and collaborative communication.
Develop and sustain relationships with city leaders and other local governmental agencies.
Collaborate with other administrators and staff to coordinate and supervise well-being programs as assigned.
Oversee, organize, and facilitate internal and external student well-being initiatives.
Serve as the district well-being liaison to the community.
Assist with the coordination of staff wellness committee planning, and programming.
Serve as the district-wide lead of The R Factor (implementation, planning, programming, coordination, professional development, etc).
Analyze data for continuous improvement.
Perform all other tasks/duties and assume such responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

 

Experience Required
Master’s degree or higher.
Valid Ohio License/Certificate as a Superintendent or ability and willingness to obtain.
Ten years or more successful experience in education with at least five years administrative experience at the building or District level in the following areas:
Business
Operations
Human Resources
Child Nutrition
School Transportation
Custodial, Maintenance & Grounds Services
School Age Child Care Program
School Safety
Facilities Management, Renovation and/or Construction
Well-being Programs for Students and Staff
Capital Campaigns and Programs
Other Student Services
Prior successful background/experience in the public/private business sector preferred.
Such alternatives to the above as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent.
