The Athletic Director is an administrative position. As such, in addition to supervising and managing the district athletic program, they also have significant curricular and student supervision and management duties within the district. The AD is responsible for developing, overseeing, and creating a vision for the district PreK-12 athletic program and facilities.


-Each staff member shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.

-Each staff member shall be a role model for students to conduct themselves as citizens and responsible, intelligent human beings. Each staff member has a legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.

-Comply with all Federal, State, and District policies and guidelines, including Special Education and Title IX legal requirements.

-Respect personal privacy. Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.

-Reports suspected child abuse and/or neglect to civil authorities as required by law.

-Strives to develop rapport and serves as a positive role model for others.

-Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.


Establishes and maintains favorable relationships with parents, local community groups, and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for the district’s athletic and curricular programs. This includes but is not limited to the alumni associations, athletic federations, City of Oberlin, and Oberlin College.
Actively participate on the District Facilities Strategic Planning Committee.

Coordinates pre-season coaches meetings to discuss proper behavior for both athletes and coaches on and off the field

Ensures the coaching staff takes all state-mandated courses

Ensures all proper state mandatory related credentials are in place before the first day of practice

Schedules all practice and interscholastic athletics for the district

Arranges for certified officials for each home athletic event

Arranges transportation for all athletic teams, band and cheerleaders, field trips, and student excursions

Provides for the proper administration and supervision of all home athletic contests

Attends away athletic events, including tournaments and playoff games

Validates the eligibility of all athletes

Arrange medical exams and file medical and parental permission forms for athletes.

Develops the annual budget for interscholastic athletics and prepares requisitions for the proper expenditure of athletic funds

Maintains an inventory of all athletic equipment and supplies

Assumes responsibility for the care, maintenance, and storage of athletic equipment

Maintains complete athletic records for all sports

Plans all pep rallies with the building administrator

Evaluate head coaches at the end of the season and assist head coaches in evaluating assistant coaches.

Develop and maintain an athletic and coach handbook

Attend Oberlin Atheletic Booster Meetings

Reports maintenance problems concerning the interscholastic plant and grounds to the maintenance staff for correction

Represents the district at regional, state, and conference meetings

Organize, oversee, and evaluate athletic study tables with building administrators

Develop and oversee all sports complete programming, including youth programming throughout the school year and summer, including developing a strength and conditioning expectation for all sporting programs.

Assists the principal in providing administrative supervision at school-sponsored activities by attending athletic competitions, co-curricular activities, and special events

As a member of the senior administrative team at the high school, performs other duties as assigned by the superintendent.

Maintains athletic, social media outlets

Performs other duties as may, from time to time, be assigned by the Operations Director or Superintendent Designee


Experience Required

-Preferred Administrative license/certificate

-Demonstrated leadership capabilities

-Practical organizational planning and project management skills

-Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university

-Preferred teaching experience

-Experience as a coach or athletic director

-Experience working with the community


Approximate Work Hours or Days
230 days/yr plus 13 days to be approved by the Superintendent
