SUMMARY: The High School Athletic Director will serve as a pivotal figure in fostering a positive and successful athletic program. The primary responsibility will be to oversee all aspects of the high school’s athletic department and instill a vision for a comprehensive district-wide athletic program, ensuring the smooth operation of athletic events, programs and facilities. The position will collaborate closely with coaches, staff, students, parents and external stakeholders to promote a culture of sportsmanship, teamwork and excellence.

• Supports student-athletes’ mental health and well-being.
• Facilitates ongoing communication with athletics team members and high school and district level administrators regarding athletic events and operations.
• Works collaboratively with the Middle School Athletic Director to create alignment between middle school and high school athletics.
• Creates high school schedules for all sports, teams and coaches (in-season and out-of-season), ensuring equitable scheduling of facilities for practices and competitions among different sports teams.
• Supervises the work of the Associate High School Athletic Director, site managers and other school event workers to ensure all practices and competitions are scheduled and run effectively.
• Works with the Treasurer’s Office to assess, collect and track high school pay-to-participate fees.
• Provides guidance and direction to club sports.
• Oversees the selection, assignment and evaluation of all high school coaching personnel and volunteer coaching positions; submits information to Human Resources for job postings.
• Oversees and evaluates the work of the Associate High School Athletic Director and high school Athletic Secretary.
• Develops, implements, enforces and evaluates appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of high school student-athletes and athletic activities.
• Fosters good school-parent relations by maintaining communications relative to rules and regulations on athletics.
• Collaborates with Gahanna Lincoln Athletic Boosters to support high school athletic teams.
• Coordinates coverage for home athletic events for all high school sports; oversees and hires all seasonal game day managers and tournament workers.
• Hosts and facilitates annual all-parent athletics meetings by season to review athletic program information and expectations and the athletic handbook.
• Oversees academic eligibility for high school athletes including the creation and monitoring of academic support plans.
• Coordinates student-athlete leadership and volunteer events.
• Coordinates and hosts Signing Day ceremonies.
• Provides guidance and professional development to high school coaches to ensure high-quality sports experiences for students.
• Reviews and enforces the athletic handbook with all high school coaches and athletes.
• Works in accordance with OHSAA to host end-of-season tournaments for high school teams.
• Responsible for purchasing necessary supplies, equipment and uniforms for high school athletic teams.
• Serves as a mediator between parents and coaches when situations arise.
• Attends required OHSAA regional meetings and biweekly OCC meetings; represents the school district in matters of interscholastic athletics with the OHSAA and OCC.
• Fosters good communication and working relations with City of Gahanna representatives and Gahanna Department of Parks & Recreation.
• Must be available to work non-traditional hours, including weekends; is present for at least one home event per school per week.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

• Manages subordinate head coaches who supervise assistant and JV coaches in the Athletic Department and the Athletic Department secretary. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of this unit.
• Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.


Experience Required
• Must hold a master’s degree or be working toward a master’s degree.
• Prior experience in an athletic department preferred.


Wage or Salary
$99,625 – $124,419/year
