Communication Specialist – Johnstown Monroe Local Schools


Primary responsibilities include:


  1. Develop and execute an annual strategic communications plan for the successful dissemination of public information. The plan should focus on the content of messaging and branding while outlining the best use of various communications tools, including the district’s website, social media, video, press releases, newsletters, special purpose publications, audio-visual presentations and informal or formal meetings.


  1. Lead district’s internal and external communications, as well as, all public information efforts.


  1. Manage all social media platforms for the district while promoting the brand and image of the school district.


  1. Responsible for the content of the school district’s website and associated pages.


  1. As district spokesperson, work cooperatively with news media to provide information upon request and promote a good relationship with media representatives.


  1. Routinely represent district and superintendent at school, community, and Board of Education functions, some of which occur in the evenings or on weekends. Travel may be required.


  1. Participate in a 24-hour, on-call response service, particularly in emergencies, crises, or special circumstances.


  1. Provide superintendent and/or senior leadership team with visual aids, research information, and presentations on local and state issues for public meetings.


Experience Required:

– Bachelor’s degree or higher


– Two or more years of related experience in Marketing, Communications or Public Relations preferred.


– Knowledge of, and demonstrated skill in social media management, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram.


– Prior experience with content management system-based website design and upkeep.


– Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues and lead in times of crisis.


– Excellent writing and editing skills.


– Superior presentation and analytical skills, plus demonstrated skills to handle a variety of assignments simultaneously.


– Ability to work under deadline pressure and extra hours if needed on assignments.


– Strong interpersonal communication skills.


– Established project management skills.


– Consistent requirements to lift, carry, push and pull various supplies and/or equipment up to a maximum of 50 pounds


– Willing to instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values and serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.


– Active membership in the Ohio School Public Relations Association (OHSPRA).


– Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate.


Wage or Salary: Negotiable

Approximate Work Hours or Days: 260 days
