Communications Coordinator/Administrative Assistant – Jonathan Alder Local Schools

Duties:

POSITION GOAL:  Provide multifaceted services that support the effective management of the District’s programs as the Board of Education Secretary and Central Office Administrative Assistant.  Implements a comprehensive communications strategy and manages public relations while serving the students, staff, parents and community of Jonathan Alder Schools

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Bachelor’s Degree preferred and/or specific coursework or equivalent experiences in communications, public relations and marketing Advanced administrative support skills

 

Awareness of and proficiency with communications technologies

 

Ability to work well with other employees, students, and the public

 

Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to function as part of a cohesive team.

 

Conceptualizes, evaluates, prioritizes and solves complex problems independently.

 

Interacts comfortably and confidently with the public

 

Demonstrates dependability, flexibility and willingness to take on new responsibilities.

 

Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills

 

Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.

 

 

 

 

 

REPORTS TO:     SUPERINTENDENT

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  250 day contract, Vacation days as specified in Board policy.

 

 

Nine (9) paid holidays are as follows: Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, President’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, and Independence Day.    Unpaid days off: Winter Break, Spring Break, and the day after Thanksgiving.

 

 

EVALUATION:     One written evaluation per year by the Superintendent

 

 

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA:

 

 

  1. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

 

1.01 Oversee and implement the district’s communication plan and community engagement strategy

 

 

1.02 Serves as the secretary for the Board of Education and central office administration

 

 

1.03 Responds to media inquiries and acts as a spokesperson for the district.

 

 

1.04 Launches and maintains a press release program; researches and writes press releases on weekly

 

 

and monthly basis.

 

 

1.05  Manages and oversees development and production of all school print, web and video publications,

 

 

including photography, design and visual identity

 

 

1.06 Maintains confidentiality of information; works to defuse rumors with regard to school and district

 

 

matters

 

 

1.07 In cooperation with the Administration, lead the generation of online content, district news, public

 

 

relations and  communications through email, social media and district website

 

 

1.08   Presents a supportive image with regard to decisions concerning policy and procedures

 

 

1.09     Performs other tasks as assigned by the superintendent and/or assistant superintendent

 

 

1.10   Communicates all legitimate concerns to the superintendent and/or assistant superintendent

  1. SPECIAL ASSIGNMENTS & PROJECTS

 

 

3.01  Prepares and publishes monthly reports, newsletters, quality profile and community surveys

 

 

3.02  Coordinates and prepares weekly Board updates and agendas for regular and special board meetings

 

 

3.03 Prepares Board meeting correspondence and follow up with staff and media

 

 

3.04  Coordination of levy campaign, voter lists, volunteer recruitment and other levy related information

 

 

3.05  Organize and direct district promotional events

 

 

3.06  Maintains Board of Education scheduling, district academic calendar and special events

 

 

3.07  Sends out annual staff intent forms and compiles results

 

 

3.08     Notifies media and JAEA President of upcoming meetings with agenda; in collaboration with

 

 

treasurer and superintendent

 

 

3.09     Manages mass communications, instant connect, social media and website

 

 

3.10 Coordinates, manages and prepares NEOLA Board Policy review meetings for board and

 

 

administration

 

 

3.11 Maintains a system for necessary records/information; computer, correspondence, forms, open

 

 

enrollment, and other relevant information (i.e. home schooled students).

 

 

3.12     Special projects as assigned by the superintendent and/or assistant superintendent

 

 

Maintains membership with Ohio School Public Relations Association (OHSPRA) and/or  National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA)

Each staff member shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.

Experience Required:
