Director of Facilities and Operations – Sylvania Schools

Duties:

Act as liaison between the school district, outside consultants, government agencies, contractors and union presidents as relating to facilities issues.

Assists negotiations with contracts and amendments with customers or bidders where appropriate. Reviews bids from other firms for conformity to contract requirements and determines acceptable bids for the administration’s consideration. Maintain copies of all facilities contracts.

Evaluate in-house vs contracted services for cost-effectiveness, make a recommendation to administration and the Board and implement approved recommendations. Research other available funding opportunities to include facility grants.

Responsible for all code and regulatory agency compliance for all facilities, grounds and property i.e. fire & building inspection, OSHA, EPA, ADA, Hazardous Materials/Asbestos, centralization of MSDS sheets.

On an annual basis prepare and distribute specifications to receive quotes from approved vendors to inspect and test all regulated systems such as: Fire Alarms, Fire Suppressions systems, Fire Extinguishers, Backflow units, Kitchen Hood fire suppressions systems etc. Review submitted quotes and make recommendations for approval of successful vendors. Review the reports from vendors and follow up on any needed repairs, replacements or upgrades needed to remain code compliant.

Coordinate with principals, coaches, and academic staff, the safe usage of buildings and facilities. Establishes terms, conditions, and support required on all building usage both inside and outside the building by outside groups & agencies including SAJRD agreements and contracts. In cooperation with the Treasurer, Superintendent and building principals, determine rental fee

schedule(s) or charges connected with the use of building(s).

Ensures proper grounds maintenance (cutting and irrigation) in and around schools, large playing fields owned by Sylvania Schools. In concert with the Treasurer, Superintendent and other applicable administrators enter into 3rd party maintenance agreements as warranted.

Pursue program to simplify and enhance operations of building control systems for greater efficiency & responsiveness to user needs – computerized facilities system modifications and adjustments.

Perform additional duties as required by Assistant Superintendent and/or Superintendent.

 

Experience Required:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related background required.
  2. Certified Facilities Manager designation or BOC preferred. If not certified, would get certification within two (2) years.
  3. Experience with athletic fields, facilities, and sports complex usage and needs desirable.
  4. 10 years of Facilities management experience preferred.

5.Must be able to demonstrate working knowledge of HVAC systems.

  1. Must have hands-on operational experience in building HVAC control systems.
  2. One or more of the following professional affiliations – CEFPI, IFMA, BOMA.
  3. Must be able to demonstrate computer software skills concerning word processing, e-mail, and other facilities’ management software.

 

Wage or Salary:

Approximate Work Hours or Days: 40hr/week M-F
