Director of Special Education – Career Prep High Schools (Throughout Ohio)

The Director of Special Education is Responsible for the oversight and development of innovative special education services to meet diverse student needs and ensure quality education and compliance.

 

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

 

-Maintain and report SPED data to Leadership Team -Participation in Director’s Call meetings -Hold SPED Teacher Based Team meetings -Supervise/coordinate special education programs which includes specially designed instruction

-EMIS: Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents legally required or administratively useful while maintaining ongoing communication with EMIS Coordinators -Secure contracts for related services -Oversee INFO SNAP by checking for potential new students with disabilities -Update SPED Roster (Google Sheets) and maintain accountability of Intervention Specialists at all schools -Send SPED updates to staff -Maintain Shared SPED data and files -Participate in multidisciplinary educational team meetings, IEP team meetings, or other educational team meetings -Provide guidance and training to special education teachers in IEP development, review and revision -Monitor the development and updating of IEPs and ETRs by district teachers, reviews IEPs, ETRs created by ISs and assist with developing IEPs for new placements and new entries -Provide guidance to principals for disciplinary concerns issues -Perform other job duties as the job demands

 

Experience Required:

-Master’s degree in Special Education, or equivocal Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience in a SPED leadership role -Minimum five years of experience in special education, leadership preferred -Experience in the field of High School Curriculum and Instruction Methods -Ability to work a flexible schedule and achieve results in a fast-paced environment -Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; -Strong attention to detail; strong multi-tasking skills; strong organizational skills; -Proficiency in computer applications, specifically Google environments -Satisfactory completion of state required criminal history check and health tests; -Ability to lead staff effectively through excellent verbal and written communication skills -Strong content knowledge in one or more content areas -Strong ability to gather, analyze, and interpret student data to make sound educational decisions -Exhibit flexibility with regards to decision making, daily challenges, and job duties -Understand the community and student demographics and ability to manage difficult or emotional students, staff, parents, and community members -Strong understanding of state proficiency testing as well as state teaching standards

 

-Must have the ability to travel
