Director of Special Education/Student Services – New London Local Schools

Duties:

New London Local Schools is seeking experienced and highly qualified applicants for the position of Director of Student Services/Special Education for the 2022-23 school year. The successful candidate will be an effective administrator who will strengthen special education excellence in the district. Major Responsibilities:

  • Work with school administrators and special education staff to coordinate special education programs and services • Provide training and consultation to teachers, support staff, administration and parents in the areas of special education to improve instructional capacity and student outcomes • Plan, organize and conduct comprehensive professional development programs for teachers, administrators, paraprofessionals, specialists, parents and other staff members in the area of special education.
  • Performs personnel functions (e.g. recruitment, hiring, evaluations, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and ensuring that program objectives are achieved • Work with the Superintendent and other administrators to plan and monitor strategic initiatives for special education • Coordinate resources and materials to develop plans for academic, psychological, social and emotional health • Coordinate transition services, post secondary options and alternative educational options • Coordinate and monitor services and supports to ensure compliance with State and Federal law • Collaborate and partner with outside agencies such as counseling, county services, advocates, private therapists, children services, mental health facilities, etc. • Lead and coordinate related services such as speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, nursing, psychological services, behavioral services, school counselors, etc.

 

Experience Required:

Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree or higher degree in special education, educational administration, or closely related field. • Minimum of 5 years work experience in special education • Administrative certificate required

* OTES2.0/OPES certificate or ability to obtain certificate

 

Wage or Salary:

Approximate Work Hours or Days: 210 Days
