Duties
Principal – Grades K-5

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
• Appropriate Ohio Administrative certification/licensure required.
• Administrative experience required.
• Three years of administrative experience preferred.
• Elementary teaching experience preferred.
• Alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate.

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Ensure student safety, proper conduct, attire and discipline.
• Ensure appropriate procedures for the registration, assignment, promotion and retention of students.
• Assist with the selection of personnel assigned to the school. Supervise and evaluate staff, and recommend contract status to the Superintendent.
• Implement and monitor pertinent school laws, board policies and administrative procedures, including the protection of confidential information.
• Ensure that building goals are established annually and reflect the goals of the district.
• Develop and manage the building budget, including activity accounts, in cooperation with the building staff.
• Oversee the instructional programs, support programs and extra curricular programs, and assure that they are properly supervised.
• Review lesson plans to assure implementation of the curriculum and appropriate teaching strategies.
• Assist with the development of the master schedule. and oversee staff assignments.
• Coordinate the building level responsibilities for district-wide activities, such as group testing and intervention assistance teams.
• Coordinate staff development, in cooperation with the central office staff and other building administrators. Encourage staff to participate on building level committees, attend workshops, and share instructional strategies with fellow staff members.
• Conduct regular staff meetings.
• Provide assistance for substitute teachers as needed.
• Establish and maintain positive public relations. Work cooperatively with the PTO.
• Maintain regular communication with parents and staff, including support personnel, such as the substitute caller and the Transportation Director.
• Professionally manage parents’ concerns, including arranging for conferences between parents and teachers when appropriate.
• Review student and staff handbooks annually, and assist with revisions as needed.
• Develop and monitor a system for the use and care of building property.
• Report unusual incidents to the proper authorities, and work cooperatively with social agencies and law enforcement.
• Participate actively as a member of the administrative team.
• Engage in continuous professional growth, and complete a professional development plan according to procedures adopted by the school district.
• Serve as a role model for students and staff in the practice of ethical principles, responsible behavior and democratic values.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Make presentations to the Board of Education as requested.
• Observe all safety and health regulations of the school district.
• Maintain an appropriate personal appearance.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Ability to lead and motivate staff and students.
• Knowledge of child development and modes of learning.
• Ability to work cooperatively with building and district staff, parents, agency personnel and community members.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
• Effective active listening skills.
• Well-developed organizational and problem solving skills.
• Sound judgment and a sense of humor.
• Knowledge of curriculum and successful teaching strategies.
• Team building skills.
• Knowledge of Ohio school law.
• Knowledge of educational administration and school finance.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
• Telephone and fax machine.
• Computer/word processor/printer.
• Public address system.
• Two-way radio.
• Various other office machines and educational equipment, such as copiers, laminators, calculators and DVD players.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
• Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather; that is, being prepared to come to work on all scheduled days, including calamity days.
• Some interaction with unruly children.

 

Experience Required
QUALIFICATIONS:
1.  Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university
2.  Appropriate Ohio Administrative certification/licensure
3.  Administrative Experience preferred
4.  Elementary teaching experience preferred
5.  Excellent organizational, planning, verbal and written communication skills
6.  Experience developing and faciliting best instructional practices for teachers
7.  Ability to prioritize relationships and collaborative leadership with staff, children, families and the community
8.  Other such qualifications as may be required by the Superintendent and/or the Board of Education
