Primary Job Function:

The Reynoldsburg City Schools’ Executive Director of Communication and Outreach is responsible for supporting student success by ensuring that the communication and outreach program is aligned with the District’s strategic plan. The Executive Director will be responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive and dynamic communications strategy that includes the facilitation and development of accurate and timely internal/external outreach to encourage and elicit community involvement in meeting the needs of the whole student.

Minimum Qualifications:

– Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing or a related field.
– Seven (7) years previous experience in the field of Communication including public relations, community engagement, community relations and/or marketing
– Proper endorsements as required

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Primary functions may include the following duties, responsibilities, skills, abilities, and other characteristics. Creating the Culture

– Responsible for creating a culture that builds the commitment to a shared vision for the value and necessity of a dynamic communication and outreach program that ultimately supports the success of all students
– Responsible for creating a culture that works collaboratively across the organization to identify both internal and external opportunities for communication and outreach
– Responsible for creating a culture that champions innovation, creativity and outside the box thinking among administrators, teachers and staff with respect to the use of digital content, including videos and social media
– Responsible for creating a culture of continuous improvement by proactively establishing systems to gather feedback from schools and families intended to influence both policies and practices that support communication and outreach which in turn support the education of all students

Leadership

– Responsible for working with the superintendent and cabinet on all matters relating to communication and outreach
– Responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating a comprehensive internal and external district communication plan that includes but is not limited to publications, media relations and electronic communications
– Responsible for providing the leadership necessary for the achievement of RCS mission and organizational objectives by ensuring accuracy, professionalism and a high-quality product in all forms of district communication
– Responsible for serving as the primary district contact and spokesperson for all media matters
– Responsible for developing media relations, marketing, advertising, communications and community engagement plans
– Responsible for maintaining the brand, mission and vision of the district
– Responsible for serving as the liaison between Reynoldsburg City Schools, local governments and community leaders.
– Responsible for proactively engaging with media representatives to share information for the purpose of initiating articles and news releases about district programs, strategic initiatives, and student and staff achievements
– Responsible for managing program(s) and/or department responsibilities regarding innovative programs/services including but not limited to:
Website design
Marketing materials
Public relations image
Data management
Fiscal responsibility
District forecasting
Strategic Support

– Responsible for providing support and advice to the Superintendent and Cabinet on how potential policy initiatives will affect the district
– Responsible for providing professional public relations council and support to the district leaders and school board.
– Responsible for providing strategic support for innovative and promotional avenues of communication strategies and tools that meet the needs of district audiences
– Responsible for creating and updating district-wide communication policies and procedures.
– Responsible for providing in-service training as needed on media, public, and community engagement best practices
– Responsible for developing, implementing and coordinating a crisis communications plan for RCS
– Responsible for participating in regional school safety planning efforts and. recommending appropriate action when necessary
– Responsible for participating in regional and statewide school public relations associations.
– Responsible for supporting as well as representing the district and the Superintendent when needed at community functions and state and national school public relations activities

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

– Knowledge of marketing strategies and tactics
– Knowledge of website management systems, video editing software, photo editing software, Adobe Creative suite
– Knowledge of social media management systems, Google Analytics, SEO, Google AdWords
– Skilled in writing and editing
– Skilled in developing and implementing successful social marketing strategies
– Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions
– Skilled in being aware of others’ reactions and understanding why they react as they do
– Skilled in identifying measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance
– Skilled in being highly detail-oriented with an attention to quality
– Ability to develop and implement successful social marketing strategies
– Ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences
– Ability to collaborate in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team
– Ability to be a self-starter
– Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
– Ability to set priorities and propose new ways of creating efficiencies
– Ability to drive to locations around the district

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

– Physical Demands – While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others. The employee is required to sit or stand and move around for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job the employee must be able to push, pull, lift and carry over 25 pounds on occasion.
– Working Conditions – The employee in this position may experience occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue. The employee may also be required to interact with unruly children.
– Driving Requirement – This position may require driving.
