The Assistant Principal is directly responsible to the Principal and/or the Superintendent of Schools.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Inspires and empowers the learning community of the Olmsted Falls High School which includes students from 9th-12th grades. Supports the building principal with the implementation, administration, supervision, and evaluation of all programs and activities, curricular and co-curricular, within his/her building in accordance with board of education policy and Ohio School Law and Standards; provide leadership in the planning and supervision of the educational program.
DESCRIPTION OF SCHOOL
Olmsted Falls High School has approximately 1,150 students. The school is staffed approximately 109 total personnel with 75 teachers, 12 of which serve as intervention specialists, and 5 guidance counselors. Our Bulldogs are also supported by a dedicated staff of cafeteria workers, custodians and paraprofessionals who are there to help provide an excellent educational experience for our scholars. Our graduating seniors routinely average over $141,000 in local scholarship dollars and earn, on average, $3 million in total scholarships as they pursue post high school opportunities. We are dedicated to providing our students with a “Triple A”- Academics, Arts, Athletics experience and boast a robust list of course offerings, numerous musical and performing arts programs, and excellent athletic programs in one of the toughest conferences in Ohio.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Supervises pupil attendance, keeping accurate records, issuing permits, conferring with parents, and referring problem cases to the attendance officer.
Enforces student code of conduct and issues discipline as procedures and policy requires. This includes assignment of detentions, suspension and expulsion recommendations, representation in related hearing and parent conferences.
Conducts necessary processes to ensure the efficient closing and opening of school.
Assists in the admission, assignment, and withdrawal of students. Works closely with counselors in this process.
Responsible for accurate record keeping of student related discipline and attendance records.
Supervises the distribution of classroom and office supplies, textbooks and equipment.
Supervision and monitoring of halls, cafeteria and gymnasium during the school day, during class changes, fire drills, assemblies, inside and outside the school building during dismissal, home and away athletic events, all home and away evening and weekend events including open house, parent conferences, music concerts and drama productions.
Assists with maintaining and monitoring records of teacher attendance and absence.
Assists with instructional supervision in the evaluation of building personnel.
Completes building, local, county, state, and federal reports as assigned by the principal and within required timelines.
Completes updates and revisions to the student code of conduct, student handbook as required by district procedures and law.
Actively works to foster a positive learning environment for teaching and learning.
Assists in the process of interviewing and hiring of new staff.
Assists with the planning and implementation of staff inservice and professional development.
Serves on school district committees as assigned.
Assists with the safe operation of all safety evacuation drills as required by board policy and state law.
Oversees maintenance of the buildings, grounds, and related instructional areas. This includes monthly inspections and approval and issuance of appropriate maintenance orders as required by procedure and policy.
Takes an active role in developing and participating in professional growth opportunities as needed and required.
Provides appropriate updates on school matters to the building principal and superintendent of schools as needed and required.
Accepts and performs the delegated responsibilities as assigned by the principal.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
Conducts other duties related to the assistant principal’s duties as assigned by the building principal, Chief Operating Officer and/or superintendent of schools.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.
Occasional interaction among unruly children.
Experience Required:
PREFERENCES
Previous administrative experience in public education Experience leading building committees and/or initiatives Proven instructional leadership experience Experience with additional building administrative and leadership tasks.
Experience with PBIS initiatives and implementation at the HS level Knowledge of Ohio End of Course Exams testing Knowledge of the Ohio Graduation Requirements and Seals for the class of 23 and beyond Experience with at risk student populations Instructional leadership
