Essential Functions:
• Develop and implement programs and plans to ensure the safety of our students
• Provide leadership and direction to administrators, psychologists and special education staff for the implementation of federal law
and Ohio rules for educating handicapped pupils
• Coordinate the PT, OT, school psychological services, speech and hearing services and other contract services for disabled children
at the secondary level
• Knowledge of RTI
• Coordinate, channel, schedule and review reports for psychological services, including case status and progress to final disposition
of the referral
• Coordinate activities between the school district and outside agencies, e.g., human services, children’s services, juvenile court, child
and adolescent psychiatric services
• Coordinate the placement of handicapped students in alternative placements including schools outside of the district
• Prepare all local, state and federal reports relative to areas of special education
• Responsible for reviewing cases pertaining to the alternative placement of pupils
• Assist in developing districtwide policies concerning the special education programs and pupil personnel services
• Develop procedures to maintain complete cumulative individual records of all children enrolled in special education
• Recommend the approval of supplies, materials, and textbooks used by special education programs
• Interpret the goals and programs of the special education program
• Advise all personnel on rules and regulations regarding all programs that relate to special education
• Initiate, coordinate and monitor educational reform and instruction for special education
• Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy
• Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., student IEP’s, testing information, student and staff information
• Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
• Promote good public relations
• Attend meetings and in-services as required
• Oversee the implementation of the district’s special education program
• Develop processes and procedures to ensure the accurate reporting of special education data as it impacts on the state EMIS
• Represent all schools in their contact with the courts regarding students
• Responsible for all cumulative records of special education students
• Supervise and assist in evaluating special education personnel


Experience Required
• Master’s degree or equivalent
• Three to five years experience as an administrator
• Appropriate state of Ohio certification/license
• Prior experience as a special education teacher
• BCII/FBI clearance
• Alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate


Wage or Salary
Pay Grade 4 – $92,676 – $115,741


Approximate Work Hours or Days
8 hours per day
