Duties
Superintendent – Steel Valley School District, Allegheny County, PA. Appointment on/about Spring 2024. Enrollment approximately 1,500; grades K-12.

Have an aptitude for working in a culturally diverse community with a wide range of socioeconomic levels.

Encourage a collaborative environment of close cooperation between parents, teachers and other school district staff.

Engage staff by delegating authority and responsibility with focus and effectiveness, and ensure staff accountability.

Recognize situations that call for independent judgment and quick thinking, and react positively.

Demonstrate willingness to lead decision-making while utilizing various methods to keep the board informed.

Maintain positive staff and board relations.

Assess areas of district improvement in all support service areas, and then oversee major district initiatives – both educationally and operationally – and address the challenges, issues and needs inherent in such projects.

Demonstrate skill in supervising employees at all levels and in developing programs for staff evaluation and corrective action plans, new staff orientation, and staff recruitment.

Speak knowledgeably on general aspects of school district budgeting and know where to go for advice and assistance; describe how to supervise purchasing, payroll and other fiscal matters.

Oversee major district initiatives – both educationally and operationally – and address the challenges, issues and needs inherent in such projects.

Successful candidate will be a strong leader with the ability to assess areas of district improvement, oversee major initiatives, involve staff and community in decision making, maintain positive staff and board relations, and possess strong skills in school finance, budgeting, and cost-effective strategies. Salary negotiable and will be competitive, based on training and experience, qualifications and meeting board criteria including but not limited to the skills listed above. Experience Required
Interested candidates will need to provide a signed cover letter, two-page resume, completed performance assessment, application, PA letter of eligibility, Act 24 clearance, current Act 34, Act 151 clearances and FBI fingerprints (dated within one year). Sealed university transcripts will need to be ordered and mailed to PSBA Member Services, Attention: Erin Eckerd, 400 Bent Creek Blvd, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050.
